Pre Testing Requirements

For samples within Waikato Hospital, samples must be received in the laboratory within 2 hours of collection and kept at room temperature (NOT on ice or heat).

PFA sample must be WALKED. Do NOT put the sample in the lamson. Sample will be rejected if put through the lamson.

Specimen Collection and Transport Protocols

If dispatched from outside Waikato Hospital:

- PFA must be sent to the hospital as a whole blood at room temperature and needs to be tested within 4 hours. Do not put through the lamson. 

- Plasma aliquots must be double spun and frozen within 4 hours of collection.

2 x1.5ml frozen double-spun citrated plasma

Aliquot Transport

PFA must be sent directly to Waikato Hospital. Sample is unsuitable for testing after 4 hours. Sample must be WALKED. Do NOT put the sample in the lamson. Sample will be rejected if put through the lamson.

Diagnostic Use Or Instructions

A PFA will be performed with all initial VWD investigations performed when samples are collected at Waikato Hospital.
