Diagnostic Use Or Instructions

Stool culture is the preferred test for diagnosing Yersinia pseudotuberculosis.  Paired sera collected < 1 week and > 2 weeks from onset are required to diagnose presumptive Yersinia mesenteric adenitis.  Reactive arthritis may be diagnosed from a single sample, provided other investigations are negative. Please phone the laboratory if stool culture has been completed and is negative or if the clinical presentation is reactive arthritis.
