Porphobilinogen analysis is done as part of the urine porphyrin screen. Screen positive PBG samples will be referred for confirmation and quantification.
Screen positive urine porphyrin specimens will be forwarded to LabPlus for confirmation by HPLC.
Porphyrin screening requires testing of urine, faeces and blood, ideally collected when symptomatic.
