Specimen Collection and Transport Protocols

It is recommended that Anti Cardiolipin Antibodies be requested, when investigating patients for Anti-phospholipid syndrome.

Adult Specimen

2 x 2.7 mL sodium citrate tubes (blue) and 4 mL Plain tube (Gold). Blood must be collected carefully as activated samples invalidate results.

Aliquot instructions

2.0 mL double spun platelet poor plasma

Aliquot Transport

Samples sent from outside laboratories must be separated by double-spinning technique and frozen within 4hours of collection. Sample must be received in Waikato Lab frozen. Any thawed samples cannot be tested.
