Specimen Collection

Adult Specimen

0.6 μL capillary sample collected directly onto a Statstrip test strip.

Specimen Collection and Transport Protocols

Clean and dry the patients' scalp or hands and wipe away the first drop of blood.  

A scalp capillary sample must be tested within 3 minutes of collection.

Paediatric Specimen

0.6 μL capillary sample from scalp collected into a capillary tube.

Additional Information

Lactate starts to rise within 3 minutes from sample collection, a delay in testing will cause a falsely elevated lactate result.
