Specimen Collection and Transport Protocols

Blood samples must be collected prior to any blood transfusion or at least 60 days from any previous blood transfusion and without any evidence of active haemolysis.

 

Adult Specimen

1 x 4 ml EDTA blood (purple)

Paediatric Specimen

minimum 1 x 250 uL EDTA blood (microtainer, purple)

To be received at referral laboratory by 1630hrs Thursdays

Instructions for Referral to Waikato Lab

Aliquot instructions

Referring laboratories need to provide 6 x 4ml EDTA bloods from different adults with normal haematology and biochemistry profiles.

These samples should be collected at a similar time as the patient sample.

The control blood samples are to be transported to referral lab with the patient sample.

Send all samples at 4°C labelled appropriately
