Contact laboratory staff (Ext 98646) to provide media for specimen collection, indicating the tests you need. Bacterial culture and gram stain are routinely performed. Fungal culture, Herpes Simplex Virus PCR, Acanthamoeba PCR and Chlamydia will only be done at the specific request of the clinician.
Direct inoculation of culture media at the time of specimen collection is advised.

Gram stain 1hr / Bacterial Culture (final) 7 days / Fungal Culture (final) 4 weeks / Herpes Simplex PCR 24 - 48hrs
Microscopy / culture
Acanthamoeba PCR (send away) 4 days
