Diagnostic Use Or Instructions

Pathological significance: In normal bilirubin metabolism the bilirubin produced as a result of the breakdown of haemoglobin from red cells is conjugated in the liver and excreted in the bile to the intestine.

Any blockage of the bile system or failure of excretion of bilirubin post conjugation will result in raised levels of this fraction of bilirubin in the blood.
